Tico Paradise Costa Rica · At the park, you drive

The Poás park entry ticket

A resold entry to Poás Volcano National Park for people driving themselves, sold on GetYourGuide by Tico Paradise Costa Rica. Pick it only for the free cancellation: the park's own SINAC ticket costs about half as much and has no refunds for weather.

Poás Volcano National Park Admission Ticket

About this experience

Read this listing as what it is: an entry ticket and nothing more. You drive to the park, queue at the gate, sit through the ranger briefing and walk up with everyone else. The listing's includes section mentions a guide and transport, but its meeting point text says they are not included. The second reading fits a 40-minute entry product, so plan on neither.

It is also a resale. SINAC sells Poás tickets online only, through its own SINAC booking system, by name and passport number, at US$15 plus 13% VAT: US$16.95 for a foreign adult. This one costs $32. The GetYourGuide voucher alone is not a park ticket. You have to activate the code the day before by WhatsApp or email, as the listing instructs, and keep what comes back for the gate.

What the extra $15 buys is the cancellation. SINAC gives no refunds for fog or rain; this listing cancels free up to 24 hours before. Poás has closed at short notice in 2017, 2025, January 2026 and August 2026, and cloud can hide the crater for days, so on a flexible trip that is worth something. If your dates are fixed and you can manage the SINAC site, the official ticket is the better deal.

  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which SINAC's own ticket lacks
  • Entry for drivers who want to set their own pace
  • The same visit as everyone: briefing, helmet, 20 minutes at the viewpoint
  • Pairs well with a coffee farm visit after the crater

Tips before you book

  • Go for the 8:00 or 8:30 slot. Cloud usually rolls in by 10:30 or 11:00.
  • Activate the code early on the day before, and keep the reply on your phone.
  • Fill the tank in Alajuela: there is no fuel near the entrance.
  • In January 2026 the Route 120 bridge in Poasito closed, and SINAC urged drivers to avoid the old Route 146 via Freddo Fresas, declared 4x4-only. Check which road is open before you set out (driving notes).
